The much-anticipated 2025 Nissan Patrol is poised for an earlier-than-expected debut. Initially, Nissan announced that the new Armada, the Patrol's name in left-hand drive markets, would be launched by the end of the Japanese fiscal year, ending March 31, 2025. However, Nissan Americas chairperson Jeremie Papin recently confirmed to Automotive News that the next-generation flagship SUV will be introduced this year. This launch aligns with the end of the northern summer, meaning the Armada will debut in North America by August, with an official unveiling likely before then.
While the new Armada's release is imminent, the right-hand drive Patrol will have a longer wait. Earlier this year, Nissan’s AMIEO division (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania) revealed plans to launch four new vehicles over the next two years, including a new ute, likely the next Navara, and a mid-sized electric SUV. The remaining two models remain unspecified but are part of Nissan's mid-term business plan, "The Arc," targeting goals by fiscal year 2026.
Historically, the Patrol's Australian release has lagged behind other markets. For instance, the current Y62-series Patrol started production in 2010 but didn't arrive in Australia until 2013. The upcoming model will replace the petrol V8 of the Y62 with a more efficient V6. In the related 2025 Infiniti QX80, unveiled in March, the 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 produces 336kW of power and 698Nm of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and available in rear- or four-wheel drive. This engine significantly outperforms the current Patrol’s V8 and the Land Cruiser 300 Series’ turbo-diesel V6.
The Infiniti QX80 provides a glimpse into the new Patrol/Armada's body design, although it will feature distinct front and rear styling. The interior is also expected to differ, with the QX80 showcasing a 14.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, integrated into a wide panel of screens, and a 9.0-inch screen for climate control.
