2025 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: Triton-Based SUV Revealed

The 2025 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport isn't an all-new model but rather an updated version of the existing Triton-based SUV. While the headlights and fog lights remain unchanged, the SUV boasts a new skid plate, redesigned upper and lower grilles, and an updated rear bumper. Freshly styled wheels complete the exterior tweaks.

Reports said that the Pajero Sport will be powered by the new Triton’s ‘4N16’ 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, likely settling for a single-turbo configuration. This setup would produce 135kW and 430Nm, slightly more than the outgoing model, but less than the Triton's twin-turbo variant. It remains unclear whether the SUV will retain its current eight-speed automatic transmission or switch to the Triton's six-speed.

This facelift is expected to be the final update for the current generation Pajero Sport, which debuted in 2015 and last saw an update in late 2019. With only 5547 units sold in 2023, the Pajero Sport was Mitsubishi’s lowest-volume model in Australia, excluding discontinued vehicles.

Looking ahead, new overseas renderings from Kolesa.ru suggest that the next-generation Pajero Sport, expected to debut in late 2024 to 2025, will share front-end styling with the all-new Triton, featuring minor tweaks to its grille and LED design. The render also indicates a more hunkered down rear end, pronounced wheel arches, and squared-off design cues for a modern look. The new model is likely to share its powertrain with the Triton, potentially adopting the more powerful 150kW/470Nm twin-turbo 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine.

For those who love keeping their vehicles in pristine condition, we recommend the Chemical Guys HOL169 16-Piece Arsenal Builder CarWash Kit. This kit features a foam cannon, bucket, and six 16 oz car care cleaning chemicals. Ideal for car and truck enthusiasts, dads, and DIYers, it works seamlessly with pressure washers for an exceptional clean.

Currently, the Pajero Sport range starts at $44,940 for the base GLX rear-wheel drive and tops out at $62,440 for the flagship GSR 4x4. It is powered by a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 133kW and 430Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The current model can tow up to 3100kg braked, a figure that is likely to improve with the next generation.
