Genesis finally has a full-size flagship SUV, and the all-electric GV90 brings 657 horsepower, available coach doors, and an interior designed to push the Korean luxury brand into new territory.

Genesis has spent the past decade proving that a relatively young luxury brand can compete with far more established names. With the new GV90, however, Genesis is attempting something much more ambitious: entering the upper end of the full-size luxury SUV market with a vehicle that combines electric power, unusual design features, and genuinely high-end rear-seat accommodations.
The 2028 Genesis GV90 is the production evolution of the dramatic Neolun concept. While production vehicles often lose their most interesting concept-car details, the GV90 retains several of them, including available coach-style doors and an interior that can transform into something closer to a luxury lounge than a traditional three-row SUV.
Genesis Finally Has Its Flagship SUV
The GV90 becomes the largest and most prestigious SUV in the Genesis lineup. It is built on a new electric architecture and uses a long 3,245-mm wheelbase, giving Genesis plenty of room to create a spacious three-row cabin while maintaining the imposing proportions expected from a flagship.
Genesis will offer conventional GV90 configurations alongside the more exclusive GV90 Neolun. Depending on specification, the standard vehicle can provide six- or seven-seat layouts, while the Neolun places a much stronger emphasis on rear-seat luxury and chauffeur-style comfort.
The exterior remains relatively restrained despite the vehicle's size. Genesis' familiar two-line lighting signature is paired with a clean front fascia, smooth body surfaces, and available wheels measuring up to 24 inches. The company says some of the exterior surfacing was inspired by traditional Korean moon-jar pottery, giving the SUV a more minimalist identity than many aggressively styled luxury rivals.
657 Horsepower and a 123.5-kWh Battery
Power is supplied by a 123.5-kWh battery, currently one of the largest battery packs used in a Hyundai Motor Group production EV. Genesis estimates that the seven-seat version will be capable of approximately 500 kilometers, or around 310 miles, of driving range, although that figure comes from internal testing rather than an official EPA rating.
Charging performance is equally important for a vehicle carrying such a large battery. Genesis says the GV90 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in around 22 minutes when connected to a compatible 350-kW DC fast charger under suitable conditions.
The flagship also receives hardware intended to make its size easier to manage. Multi-chamber air suspension is designed to balance ride comfort and body control, while rear-wheel steering can turn the rear wheels by as much as five degrees to improve maneuverability at lower speeds.
The Neolun Coach Doors Are Actually Going Into Production
What makes the system particularly unusual is its hidden B-pillar arrangement. Instead of leaving a conventional fixed pillar between the front and rear openings, Genesis incorporates structural reinforcement into other areas of the vehicle so the entryway appears much more open when both doors are operated.
The rear doors can still function independently, making the arrangement more practical than the purely theatrical doors often seen on concept cars. A specially engineered hinge moves the rear door outward before rotating it open, helping it operate without requiring an excessive amount of space alongside the vehicle.
Coach doors are typically associated with ultra-luxury brands rather than mainstream premium SUVs. Their appearance on the GV90 therefore sends a clear message about where Genesis wants its new flagship positioned.
The Interior Pushes Genesis Further Upmarket
Genesis combines that unusual layout with materials such as Nappa leather, natural wood, fine textiles, and available genuine wood flooring. The idea is to create a more relaxed and residential atmosphere rather than simply filling the dashboard with technology.
Technology is still everywhere. A large 23.6-inch OLED display forms the centerpiece of the dashboard and can extend its usable area while the vehicle is parked, while a separate 25-inch head-up display projects important information into the driver's field of view.
The GV90 also introduces Genesis' latest connected infotainment system, while available equipment includes a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D audio system, Dolby Atmos, massage functions, ambient lighting, and an available Smart Vision Roof. More exclusive Neolun specifications go further with features such as a private refrigerator and heated wood flooring.
These details make the GV90 more than simply an electric alternative to the GV80. Genesis is clearly trying to create a different ownership experience, particularly for buyers who spend significant time in the second row.
The Biggest Question Is Still the Price
For all the confirmed specifications, one major number is still missing: Genesis has not announced official U.S. pricing for the 2028 GV90.
The company has confirmed that the vehicle is expected to arrive in the United States in early 2027, but neither the standard GV90 nor the more luxurious Neolun currently has an official American starting MSRP. That matters because pricing will determine exactly which vehicles Genesis expects the GV90 to compete against.
Industry estimates have suggested the regular GV90 could start somewhere in the low six-figure range, while more heavily equipped Neolun versions could move significantly higher. Those numbers remain estimates, however, and should not be treated as confirmed until Genesis publishes official pricing.
That uncertainty may actually be one reason interest in the GV90 is growing. Buyers can already see the 657-horsepower drivetrain, enormous battery, rapid-charging capability, rotating seats, premium technology, and unusual coach doors. What they cannot yet determine is how aggressively Genesis will price all of it.
If the GV90 substantially undercuts established ultra-luxury SUVs while delivering most of the features Genesis has revealed, it could become one of the brand's most disruptive models yet. If pricing moves too close to long-established luxury names, Genesis will face a much more difficult test of brand prestige.
For now, the important pieces are already clear. The 657 horsepower is real, the coach doors made it into production, and U.S. sales are planned for early 2027. The price is the part Genesis is still keeping to itself.
